Deforestation is the intentional clearing or destruction of forest areas. According to World Rainforest movement, Jamaica forest areas have been cleared for agriculture, causing the lost of over 75% of Jamaica’s original forest. The other 25% is secondary in nature which includes remote, inaccessible locations and mountain forest. Deforestation has a major influence on the Agriculture industry because deforestation causes climate change, which eventually disrupts food production of existing farmers. The physical and chemical characteristics of the soil significantly change when tropical forest is destroyed which causes nutrient loss, faster soil erosion and decrease yields for farmers. Deforestation impacts agriculture because it influences climate change, therefore damaging food production of existing farm land this then motivates farmers to cut down more trees in order to meet demand, which is an unsustainable farming method because there is no sustainable land management.

Deforestation has adverse impacts on climate change, because large portion of carbon that trees store is released back into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide during deforestation, which contributes to climate change trees prevent green house gases like carbon dioxide from gathering in the atmosphere and warming the planet by capturing them. Deforestation is connected to Jamaica National Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement because it is a contributor to climate change, therefore Jamaica implemented strategic priorities, to reduce GHG emissions, carbon sequestration and improve climate resilience. These projects are aimed to mitigate deforestation through the practicing of sustainable agriculture including renewable power generation. In order to achieve strong sustainability within the Jamaican agriculture industry, Jamaican’s must first identify the cause and effects of deforestation whether direct or indirect, then formulate and assess solutions while been aware of the disadvantages and how to limit their effects. Then practice measures to tackle deforestation such as reforestation and afforestation.
One may argue that the act of deforestation can be seen as a necessary evil, however sustainability must take precedence.
The act of Deforestation has impacted the world tremendously, climate change being one of its biggest factor. The article gives a good review and also the connection deforestation has with the atmosphere
A major problem we generally don’t give a lot of attention on when we speak of G/W
deforest is a major problem. I think this article give Us a clear view on the implications of deforestation
