In today's world, marine pollution is an increasing issue. Our oceans are being inundated with two kinds of pollution: chemicals and rubbish. This pollution harms the ecosystem, the health of all organisms, and the tourism industry.
In regards to marine pollution it affects the tourism industry in a way where with chemical contamination it is a cause for concern for health, the environment and the economy. This sort of pollution arises when human activities, most notably the usage of fertilizer on farms, cause chemical runoff into streams, which eventually flow into the ocean. The increased concentration of chemicals in the coastal water, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, stimulates the establishment of algal blooms, which can be poisonous to species and detrimental to humans. So this would definitely have a negative impact on the tourism industry where tourists would be affected by the algal blooms in the ocean.

Marine pollution impacts coral reef degradation in ways where people's actions can cause dangerous chemicals to be released into the water. Pesticides and fertilizers from agriculture, for example, are frequently washed into rivers and carried to the sea. Sewage is also occasionally dumped into the water. Nutrient-rich pollutants can promote the growth of algae, which can outcompete coral. They can also harm coral directly; for instance some microorganisms found in sewage are known to cause disease in coral.
This Intended Nationally Determined Contribution is a nationwide sectoral document developed by the Government of Jamaica under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Kyoto Protocol with the goal of reducing GHG emissions, which can lead to lower emissions as well as cost savings and social and environmental benefits. This include a commitment to mitigate the pollution in the ocean and the industry.
The use of systems thinking approach to tackle marine pollution in the tourism industry involves developing comprehensive strategies that consider interdependent factors contributing to the problem. The strategies may include create and promote experiences in the city or territory that are beneficial to both tourists and locals, improve the resort's infrastructure and services, involve the local community in tourism decision-making and selection, educate visitors on how to be more responsible and respectful of the environment.
