"Preserve Our Ocean, Protect Our Life!"
Marine pollution is a combination of substances or chemicals such as agricultural, industrial chemicals and trash from humans entering the ocean resulting in harmful effects on the marine life.
Our beautiful ocean, a source that covers more than 70% of the planet's surface, 90% biosphere. 97% of earths water is vital to sustain life. But our ocean at this very moment is fragile and highly vulnerable due to human damages. The major sources of marine pollution are dangerous debris, oil pollution, dumping, mining and toxic materials. It's our responsibility to take good care of and protect our ocean if we want to live a longer, better and healthier life.

Marine pollution significantly impacts the tourism and fisheries industry. On January 1, 2019, a ban was launched on single use plastic bag to help reverse this trend. Marine pollution forces the government to use its resources to clean and prevent reoccurrence. These resources could have been used for more productive purposes such as the production of goods or the provision of jobs. Marine pollution has a wide range of social and economic impacts. Related economic costs include those linked to clean-up operations, litter removal, the repair and replacement of damaged vessels and gear, reduced fishing catches, and a decline in coastal tourism and impact on relate.

Covering approximately one fourth of the marine life destination sites for marine tourism, fishing and shoreline protection. When sediments enter the water, they tend to increase the growth of damaging algae's and decreases the water quantity. This also make coral reefs susceptible to diseases, impele coral growth and reproduction. Sadly, our coral reefs are under threats, scientist predicts that we could lose approximately 65% of them by 2050. Increase in global warming can be caused by chemicals from plastics, with this being a major issue affecting the ocean causing sea level to rise. Marine life being affected by toxins can affect humans to the extent of death and food poisoning as a result or consuming fish.
The survival and flourishing of coral reefs are fundamental to biodiversity, food security ad ecosystem structure. This require immediate action globally in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is currently too little under Paris agreements targets. Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris agreement improvise biodiversity to protect our ocean and value the potential of it playing a vital role and a place for sustainable climate solution and actions.
There are several approaches in tackling this issue with the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) in preventing and reducing sea base of MPL in areas under Jamaica's jurisdiction. However storing gasoline from direct sunlight in order to minimize evaporation and air pollution, which will then lead back to the ocean as rainwater. Turning off boat engines and replacing them when necessary. Tanks can also be built with the ability of harvesting all rainwater runoffs and getting it treated before discharging in water bodies.
Marine pollution is a major problem that should be controlled as water is a very essential component vital for life. It is important for us humans to do right as best as we can in saving our marine life's even though some sources of pollution are controllable and natural sources are uncontrollable.
