More than two third of the earth is covered by water. Our food, temperature control, and majority of our oxygen supply all come from the ocean. Marine Pollution is the introduction of dangerous materials or garbage into the ocean or other water bodies which can cause harm to the marine ecosystem. Dumping is one of the several sources of marine pollution.

By damaging marine life and diminishing possibilities for activities like snorkeling and scuba diving, marine pollution may have a severe impact on the tourism industry for example on some islands such as Jamaica where the industry accounts for a significant portion of the country's GDP. Additionally, it may result in unappealing beaches, which may deter travelers from visiting the region and have a ripple impact on the local economy, resulting in decreased tourist expenditure and job losses in the tourism industry.
Marine Pollution contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gasses as a result of the breakdown of plastics and other pollutants in the water, which can alter the world temperature. Pollutant has the ability to disintegrate into tiny particles and generate toxic fumes, this has a big effect on climate change.

The Paris Agreement Jamaica NDC includes commitments and actions to combat climate change. Jamaica has pledged to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 7.8%, reach a 50% renewable energy mix in its power mix by 2030, and take steps to increase its resilience to the effects of climate change. Overall, Jamaica and the Paris Agreement stress the importance of combating climate change and the need for global collaboration and assistance.
The tourism industry has to start using system thinking in order to combat marine pollution and build a strong sustainability in the future. Finding stakeholders like the local government, fishing communities, environmental activists, and visitors is necessary. A system map that breaks down marine pollution into its various components should then be developed, intervention points should be designed, and the strategy should then be put into practice before being monitored and evaluated.
