Flooding is a natural phenomenon that occurs when there is an overflow of water beyond its normal limits, leading to a displacement of people, property damage and loss of lives, flooding is frequently caused by severe weather events like tropical depressions and hurricanes that produce heavy rainfall, contributors to flooding are blockage of drainage systems, urbanization and landslide ("Floods – Office of disaster preparedness and emergency management," n.d.). The tourism industry is one of the industries that are severely affected by flooding, as the sector relies heavily on the environment. Flooding results in property damage and infrastructure destruction, leading to a decline in tourism activities.

Flooding has a significant impact on biodiversity loss, as it affects the habitat and ecosystem of species. It results in the loss of habitats for aquatic and terrestrial organisms, leading to the displacement of animals and the destruction of their breeding sites. Jamaica's Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase climate resilience. Flooding is a significant challenge to achieving this goal, as it causes environmental degradation, leads to the displacement of people and damages property, thereby increasing vulnerability to climate change.

To tackle the issue of flooding and achieve strong sustainability, the industry needs to adopt a systems thinking approach. This approach entails a holistic perspective that considers the interconnectedness of the different components of the environment. It involves implementing measures such as land-use planning, construction of infrastructure, and flood warning systems. Additionally, promoting environmental conservation practices and enhancing the use of renewable energy will contribute to mitigating the impact of flooding on the environment and promote sustainable development. In conclusion, addressing the problem of flooding requires a collective effort from all stakeholders. The tourism and agriculture industry, in particular, must adopt
